What to write in a cover letter for requesting LOR

Here's what i wrote to the different doctors... Of course, add your own flavor to this. Don't forget to add the name of the doctor, his position, etc, date and of course your name

Dear Doctor;
Thank you for being willing to write me a letter of recommendation in support of my residency application in the United States. I am applying for residency training in the United States and would consider it as a great honor to have a recommendation from a doctor who had a large influence on my medical education and training, as well as on my decision to pursue internal medicine.
May I ask you to comment on the following aspects which program directors look for in a prospective applicant:
· Positive points in medical school, honors received
· Hospital work ethic
· Clinical skills and performance during medical rotations
· Fund of medical knowledge
· Dependability
· Level of responsibility
· Efficiency and time management
· Communication and interpersonal skills
I appreciate you taking the time out to write this letter of recommendation. Your support really means a lot to me.

Hi! I'm a friend of Goch, he referred me to your site for help =) Just a question, coz you mentioned that best time back and forth to UST was between step 1 and 2 for the LORs, but then the LOR cover page said that the LORS should have the AAMC ID in their text body, were you able to get your AAMC ID before finishing step 2? If not, how did you input it in the LOR later on?

(Thanks! your blogs been big help!)

hi there! any friend of goch is a friend of mine...
yes, when i had my LORs done, wala pa akong AAMC id, so when i got hold of my aamc id a month or two later, sinulat ko na lang siya sa upper right corner (yup handwritten lang) nung mga LORS...

hope that helped.

:)

ps sorry late reply

thanks so much! sure did! it really helps coz this thing can get pretty confusing as to how to time doing everything from over here.

Goch is about to go there and take his step 2 CS btw, end of the month if im not mistaken =)

just a few more q's if you don't mind:

1) so, im presuming it was OK with ERAS that it was handwritten lang? ... and like for the official letterhead thingy, how do you provide the docs who made your LORS with the letterhead paper, assuming for example that you visit them lang in their clinic?

2) what about that statement line re: whether you waived the right to see the content of the letter, where does that go?

3) when exactly are you allowed to apply for the AAMC ID already?

(hope you don't mind the questions, hehe)
